Spring, 1922 - Mrs. Paul Reed and Mrs. W.R. Holway have the idea to start a "little theatre." December, 1922 - The first production consists of three one-act plays: Suppressed Desires, Land of Heart's Desire and Ghost Story presented in the Central High School auditorium. Tulsa Little Theatre (TLT) is incorporated with Mrs. Holway as its first president. 1923 - Workshops are held in the storage room of Palace Clothiers at 11 W. 4th Street (later the location of the Ritz Theater). 1925 - The first membership drive brings in over 300 members, Charles Edwards is named first full-time director, TLT moves to the Alhambra Theater at 15th and Peoria, and the first "big" play is produced--Belinda. 1929 - Performances are moved to the American Legion Hut, the Tulsa University Club Auditorium and the Municipal Theater, TLT moves to its location at 15th and Delaware which will be its home for 60 years. East Lynne, the first production at the 15th and Delaware site, is performed in a tent |
