Mr. Roberts
By Thomas Heggen and Joshua Logan
May 27-28 & June 1-3, 2006 in the Performing Arts Center's John H. Williams Theatre Don Miller will direct. Program
"Mister Roberts" ran for more than 1,150 performances on Broadway and was later made into a famous film starring Henry Fonda and James Cagney. Last year the show received a much-praised revival at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The play, based on the best-selling novel of the same name, takes place during World War II aboard a Navy cargo ship called the Reluctant. Lieutenant Douglas Roberts, assigned to the ship, wants a transfer to join the 'action' of nearby battle. Unfortunately, the ship's captain, a bit of a tyrant, refuses his requests and makes life difficult for the crew, sparking constant on-ship battles and comedy. "Mister Roberts" is the fifth and final show in TT's 83rd season, which has featured great hits of the theater's storied past. Theatre Tulsa, also known as Tulsa Little Theatre, is the country's oldest continuously operating community theater west of the Mississippi
